Young Entrepreneur Creates A Smile Friendly Lollipop

A NEW KIND OF LOLLIPOP

In a previous blog post, we talked about how science had solved the mathematical problem of “how many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?

Now, a young entrepreneur may have solved a new problem, “how to keep our teeth healthy while we lick?”

Zollipops® were created by Alina Morse, an innovative young entrepreneur based in Michigan.

Alina was inspired by a trip to the bank with her dad when the teller offered her a sucker. Alina’s dad had always told her that eating sugar is bad for your teeth. What to do? Where most kids would have simply accepted the candy and moved on, Alina wanted to make taking care of her teeth more fun and easier for her friends and family.

Alina had watched her father, Tom Morse, take several innovative products to market. Determined to follow in her father’s footsteps and make a difference, she asked the simple but all important question “Dad, why can’t we make a Lollipop that is good for your teeth?” Together, the two set off to find and incorporate the best possible ingredients, and create fun with different flavors. Thus began the difficult process of product development, and a great deal of focus group testing, largely with Alina’s younger sister Lola. After research, investment, and trial and error Zollipops® were born.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF SUGAR

The key to Zollipops® are that they are not ordinary lollipops. Where normal lollipops are made from common sugar, Zollipops® are supercharged with Xylitol, Erythritol, Stevia and other smile friendly natural sweeteners.

Tooth decay happens when bacteria in your mouth consume the sugars we eat. When you drink or eat food containing ordinary sugar (sucrose), it gives bacteria on your teeth energy, allowing them to multiply and start making acids that can eat away the enamel on your teeth.

This “acid attack” causes both tooth decay and cavities to begin to form.

The sweeteners in Zollipops® are naturally sweetener derived from the fibrous parts of plants. They don’t break down like sugar and can help keep a neutral pH level in the mouth. They also prevents bacteria from sticking to the teeth, protecting them from tooth decay. Not only that, like regular lollipops, licking a Zollipop® stimulates saliva which contributes to the repair of your teeth’s natural enamel.

BUILDING A BUSINESS

Ever since the product launched for this young entreprenuer, Alina and Zollipops® have become a big hit. The business is very much a family affair, with Alina’s Dad serving as a consultant and Mom and Lola providing support and feedback at every step of the way. But Alina has made it very clear that this is her company.

With a reported $70,000 in sales Alina has been featured in the Detroit News, Forbes Magazine and on ABC’s Good Morning America where her product was featured on Shark Tank Kid’s Edition with billionaire branding expert Daymond John.

So look out Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary. In the future, Zollipops® could be found in every candy aisle in the country, and in every dentists’ office as well, and you may have a young entrepenuer joining you in the Shark Tank, with a beautiful smile.
